Atlantic Avenue Mixed-Use Plan Aims to Tackle Housing Affordability Crisis in Brooklyn



Local officials presented an overview of the Atlantic Avenue Mixed-Use Plan during a recent City Planning Commission meeting, addressing concerns regarding housing affordability in Brooklyn. The plan focuses on creating new affordable housing units while preserving existing ones, responding to the struggles residents face amid rising costs and a housing shortage.

City representatives outlined their strategies to ensure affordability, primarily through a Mandatory Inclusionary Housing (MIH) policy. This policy mandates that between 20% and 30% of residential units in new, higher-density developments will be rent-stabilized and income-restricted.
