New York City’s recent community improvement meeting outlined significant plans for the construction of 880,000 new homes throughout the city. City officials described their objectives to enhance neighborhoods and stimulate economic activity while expanding the housing supply.
During the meeting, representatives discussed the creation of a mixed-use neighborhood that could yield approximately 9,700 homes in one targeted area. Of these, around 2,800 units are expected to be classified as permanently affordable through a program known as MIH, or Mandatory Inclusionary Housing. Officials emphasized the importance of establishing a new special district, which would facilitate the shaping of building forms and incentivize public space improvements, ultimately supporting the goal of enhancing local character.
Additionally, the discussion highlighted the integration of zoning and land use actions into the final plan.
